Decision Desk HQ began in on election night 2012 as an independent source of election calls on Twitter during the presidential election.
Our first big call was the upset victor of Dave Brat over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the 2014 GOP primary in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.
From these humble beginnings we provided general election coverage in 2016 to Buzzfeed and Reuters. We were the first to call the presidency for Donald Trump.
Since then, we have provided the fastest results and race calls in thousands of elections across the country. In 2020, with concerns over misinformation and premature declarations of victory on many minds, we were one of only seven news organizations in the world empowered by Twitter to make definitive race calls on their platform. Once again, we were the first to call the presidency, this time for Joe Biden.
In 2019, we expanded our reach to include international elections with the UK General Election and in 2021 we covered the Canadian and German national elections.
We now work with some of the biggest and most respected names in journalism and for the first time in our history will cover all statewide and state legislative elections in 2022 and beyond.
